As I watch you sip
that creamy frizz of memories

I swirl. Swirl
along with your thoughts

down touching the bottom of the cup
like sediments of brewed coffee beans

blending with the aroma of black
breaking the coldness of ice;

Your thoughtfulness engulfs me
as I breath

in between spaces
of your glances

as your eyes trace the sweetness
of this hot chocolate wetting my lips.

Leaves are falling and we’re not dreaming
this no ordinary afternoon.
